Good evening, friends,
First of all, a heartfelt thank you for the many birthday wishes I received across social media, texts, messages, and calls. It was a little overwhelming—but in the best possible way.
The past few months have kept me quite busy since the closing of La Garrigue, and I’m just now beginning to settle into a new rhythm of life. I’ve also had to admit something important: retirement isn’t quite for me—at least, not yet.
A Recharged Return from Languedoc
After a few weeks back in France, catching up with family and old friends, helping with the harvest in the vineyards, and—of course—enjoying far too much food, sunshine, and local wine, I returned to Scotland recharged and ready to start a new chapter.
Not a return to full-time catering, mind you, but I’ve realised I’m simply not ready to step away from the industry that has shaped so much of my life. Years of experience still hold value, and turning my back on that felt too wasteful.
Doing Things on My Own Terms
So, after a few wonderful lunches and honest conversations with friends, customers, mentors, and family, I’ve made a decision: to carry on, but on my own terms.
Here’s what I’ve been up to lately:
-
Taken on a very part-time role at a lovely country house hotel in the Borders, where I offer support with staffing and problem-solving.
-
Returned to the Sheraton to assist the new Head Chef, Stuart, with the HIT Charity Lunch.
-
Hosted several wine tastings and agreed to a few private dinners for long-time La Garrigue clients still craving their fix of Languedoc wines, fish soup, Roquefort soufflé, Cassoulet, and lavender crème brûlée.
Upcoming Events in December
If you’d like to reconnect over food and wine, here are two events I’m especially excited about:
🍷 4th December – Wine tasting at L’Art du Vin, Dalgety Bay
🍇 5th December – Domaine des Pierres Sèches wine tasting & dinner at The Grouse and Claret, Kinross
Looking Ahead: 2026 Languedoc Wine Tours
Even with all this, I’ve also been working behind the scenes on the upcoming 2026 Languedoc Wine Tours, running from June to October. We’ll be visiting new vineyards and reconnecting with old friends who can’t wait to welcome you.
The full list of dates is now live on the website—so if you’re curious about Languedoc’s culture, history, food, scenery, and wines, this is your chance to join me on a truly unforgettable journey.
Please keep in touch, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or just want to say hello.
Kind regards,
Jean-Michel
