How strange it is to begin this letter without the traditional “Dear Friend of La Garrigue”… but even stranger was this past December—my first in years without the familiar stress and buzz of the festive season.
No office parties.
No Christmas menus.
No constant stream of carols.
No late nights.
No staff shortages or last-minute deliveries.
No daily crossings over the Forth Road Bridge…
Did I miss all of that?
Probably.
But this change gave me something I haven’t had in a long time: time to be present.
Time to reconnect with old friends, spend meaningful moments with family and grandchildren, and—most importantly—make time for time.
Still in Service – Just in a New Way
Of course, I haven’t entirely stepped away from the world of hospitality. That would be too easy!
I’ve continued to stay involved by working with a charming little hotel in the Borders, organising a couple of wine tastings and some private dinners—including a Boxing Day family lunch for old friends of La Garrigue.
You see, after all these years, I still find it difficult to say “no.” Once a host, always a host. Service is in the blood.
Looking Ahead to 2026
So now, with a fresh outlook and well-rested legs, I’m getting ready for what 2026 has to offer. Here’s what’s ahead:
🍷 Spending more time in France, especially in my beloved Languedoc
🍽️ Offering more private dinners for clients looking to enjoy restaurant-quality food in the comfort of their homes
🥂 Hosting more wine tastings, thanks to the continued support of my friends Philippe and Richard at L’Art du Vin in Dalgety Bay
